Why Now

The need for generosity has never been greater — and neither has the responsibility to steward it well.

Across the world, I have seen both the promise and the limits of how generosity is expressed. I have spent time alongside communities facing deep poverty, and with philanthropic, corporate, and nonprofit leaders seeking to create lasting impact. The lesson is consistent: good intentions are not enough.

At the same time, unprecedented resources are being mobilized. Capital is moving toward locally led solutions, long-term investment, and systemic change. This moment holds real opportunity — and real risk.

Addressing poverty in all its forms will require a multiplicity of stakeholders working together with shared purpose, humility, and resolve. No single sector can do this alone.
